Our Mission

You’re a committed - and likely overloaded - local nonprofit or NGO staff member in search of resources to help your organization thrive. Or, you’re a passionate member of a local nonprofit's Board of Directors. Or perhaps, you’re a consultant who helps nonprofits and NGOs build their capacity every day.

If you are dedicated to building bright futures in your community, Third Sector Connector is here for you.

Our goal is to provide you with tips, news, and connections that you need to build capacity within your community. Like you, we’re focused on helping local nonprofits and NGOs thrive. Membership is free.

The Need

According to a recent study by The Nonprofit Quarterly, “a vast majority of the [third] sector... is made up of small to mid-size nonprofits, most of which are very local and very deeply woven into the fabric of their own communities.” Although most nonprofits and NGOs know their own communities well, it’s challenging for them to access resources that reduce information overload, help them receive “useful, relevant, and credible” information, and build their capacity to more effectively serve their communities. We aim to be that resource.

Our Team

From our founders to our back-end support, from our logo designer to our programmers, we’re dedicated to helping nonprofits and NGOs thrive, both locally and globally. We're pleased to include professionals from Australia, Canada, Colombia, India and the United States in our growing team.  Learn more about our co-founders, Laura Deaton and Mark Deaton.

Our Tips

Targeted toward nonprofit and NGO leaders, our tips are intended to help you improve your programs, fundraising, governance, leadership and more. You can be notified by email each time a new tip is published, and then engage in a lively discussion, or simply give each helpful tip a big "thumbs up." You can even help build your own reputation by contributing your own tips.

Our Third Sector Connector Global Forums

How can a child-serving nonprofit in Kalamazoo, Michigan learn about the innovative education programs happening in Pensacola, Florida? How can the Camden Chamber Orchestra in London, England learn more about the successful ticket sale strategies used by a similar orchestra in Modesto, California? Our Third Sector Connector Forums are the answer.  Connect, share best practices, get advice, or discuss nonprofit news.

Our International Nonprofit News Hub

We’ve taken the nonprofit news and views on the web and created a single, one-stop resource designed to keep you well-informed on what’s happening in the voluntary and nonprofit sector.

Our Get Local Communities (launched in May, 2010)

Within our Get Local communities, our nonprofit members can now:

  • Interact with other local nonprofits in private local-only forums set up just for nonprofit leaders within a specified geographic region.
  • Post to a shared calendar of events and trainings that can be viewed by the general public.
  • Reach out to the community via our local nonprofit directories.
  • Easily find and hire nonprofit-friendly businesses and service providers.
  • Access Third Sector Connector's global news, tips and forums from one integrated Web interface.

Read more about the benefits of having a Get Local community and how to get one.

We've built this site for you and we're committed to challenge, change, and collective co-creation. Do you have ideas that you want us to consider? We want to hear them, so send them our way.
